John W. Winkelman, M.D., PhD is an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School and Medical Director of the Sleep Health Center of Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts.
Dr. Winkelman has published extensively in the areas of Restless Legs Syndrome and periodic limb movement disorder, insomnia, parasomnias, especially sleep-related eating disorder, and the effects of medications on sleep quality and architecture. He has also developed and directed multiple post-graduate and continuing medical education courses nationally and internationally in the area of sleep disorders.
Dr. Winkelman serves on the Medical Advisory Board of the Restless Legs Syndrome Foundation, has been an advisor to diagnostic revisions for DSM-IV and ICSD-2, and is currently the Chairman of the Nosology Committee for the American Academy of Sleep Medicine.
