The Premenstrual Continuum: Improving Diagnosis and Treatment
Available for credit through April 29, 2009

Accreditation
This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and Policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint sponsorship of the University of Virginia School of Medicine and Public Health and Discovery Health Channel, in partnership with ProCom International. The University of Virginia School of Medicine and Public Health is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

The University of Virginia School of Medicine and Public Health designates this educational activity for a maximum of 1 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Program Overview
Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) and its more severe variant premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) are common conditions in the United States. These two syndromes, which devise the premenstrual continuum, are under-diagnosed, under-treated, and associated with significant disability. Given the repetitive nature of the premenstrual symptoms, timely diagnosis and appropriate treatment are crucial.

Discovery Health has assembled a panel of experts to discuss clinical presentation of PMS and PMDD, diagnostic criteria, and new treatment options in The Premenstrual Continuum: Improving Diagnosis and Treatment.

Acknowledgement of Commercial Support
This program is funded through an educational grant from Digene.

  • Review appropriate evaluation of patients with PMS or PMDD.
  • Discuss pharmacologic treatment options of PMS and PMDD, with particular emphasis on oral contraceptives.
