Thomas C. Wright Jr. is the Associate Professor of Pathology at Columbia University in New York City, USA, and is the Director of the Division of Obstetrical and Gynecological Pathology at Columbia University Medical Center. He also directs the Colposcopy Services at the Presbyterian Hospital, New York.
Dr. Wright received his undergraduate degree from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, and his medical degree from Harvard Medical School. He completed his residency training in pathology at the Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston. After serving for several years on the faculty at Harvard Medical School he came to Columbia University Medical Center in New York where he held a fellowship in Gynecological Pathology and Cytology, before taking his present position.
Dr. Wright's major academic interests relate to understanding cervical neoplasia, the role of HPV in its natural history, and in screening, diagnosis, and management of lower genital tract cancer precursors. Dr. Wright participated in the 2001 Bethesda System conference and the development of the 2001 Consensus Guidelines for the Management of Women with Cytologic Abnormalities. He has also served on a number of committees and task forces including the American Cancer Society's Task Force for Cervical Cancer and the American Society of Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology, where he is on the board of directors.
In 2002, Dr. Wright received the Distinguished Service Award from the American Society for Colposcopy Cervical Pathology.
