Program Overview
Despite defined diagnostic criteria, many people with fibromyalgia experience persistent symptoms - often for many years - and receive ineffective treatment. This program addresses the pathophysiology, factors involved in the proper diagnosis, and treatment options for this chronic pain condition.
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:
- Describe the epidemiology of fibromyalgia.
- Explain what is known about the pathophysiology of the disease.
- Describe how to correctly diagnose fibromyalgia using the criteria developed by the American College of Rheumatology.
- Review the elements of a musculoskeletal/neurology exam that differentiates fibromyalgia from other conditions.
- Discuss the role of exercise and cognitive-behavioral therapy.
- Discuss pharmacologic treatment and identify strategies to effectively address adherence to therapy.

Family Practitioners, Internists, Rheumatologists, Pain Medicine Specialists, Physician Assistants, Nurse Practitioners and other health care professionals.
