Program Overview
Discovery Health Continuing Medical Education has assembled a group of key opinion leaders to review the epidemiology of colonic disorders requiring surgery, including colon cancer, inflammatory bowel disease and colorectal cancer. Recent findings regarding open versus laparoscopic approaches in colorectal cancer, with a focus on patient selection and cancer-related outcomes, will also be addressed

Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:

• Review recent updates to guidelines for colon cancer screening.
• List the benefits and limitations of the various screening modalities.
• Identify treatments for localized and regional colorectal cancer.
• Compare laparoscopic and open colectomy in terms of risks and benefits.
