John H. Ward, M.D. is Professor of Medicine at the University of Utah School of Medicine, Chief of Oncology in the department of internal medicine of the University of Utah School of Medicine, and Medical Director of the Hematology/Oncology ward at Huntsman Cancer Hospital at the University of Utah. He has received numerous accolades for his teaching excellence. He is an investigator of the Huntsman Cancer Institute.
Dr. Ward received his medical degree from the University of Utah School of Medicine. He completed his internship and residency in medicine at Duke University Medical Center and returned to the University of Utah to complete clinical and research fellowships in hematology/oncology. Dr. Ward is board certified in internal medicine, medical oncology, and hematology.
Dr. Ward is a fellow of the American College of Physicians and a member of several medical societies including the American Society of Hematology, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, and the Southwest Oncology Group. He has authored or coauthored over 70 articles, book chapters, and abstracts that have appeared in publications such as the Journal of Biological Chemistry, Science, Journal of Clinical Oncology, and Blood. Dr. Ward was the Huntsman Cancer Institute principal investigator for the Study of Tamoxifen and Raloxifene (STAR) trial. He is also the principal investigator for the National Surgical Adjuvant Breast and Bowel Project (NSABP) site at the Huntsman Cancer Institute at the University of Utah and the Utah SWOG principal investigator. Dr. Ward is a member of the NCCN Breast Adjuvant Panel, Breast Cancer Panel, Breast Cancer Risk Reduction Panel, Breast Cancer in the Older Woman Task Force, and HER2 Testing in Breast Cancer Task Force.
