Robert W. Carlson, M.D., is Professor of Medicine in the Division of Oncology at Stanford Comprehensive Cancer Center.
Dr. Carlson received his medical degree from Stanford University Medical School and completed his internship and junior residency in internal medicine at Barnes Hospital Group in St. Louis. He returned to Stanford for his senior residency and postdoctoral fellowship in medical oncology. Dr. Carlson is board certified in internal medicine and holds subspecialty certification in medical oncology.
Dr. Carlson is a member of several medical societies including the American College of Physicians, American Association for Cancer Research, and American Society of Clinical Oncology, and is a member of the board of directors for the Meta-Analysis Group in Cancer. Dr. Carlson lectures extensively and has authored or co-authored over 130 articles, abstracts, and book chapters that have appeared in publications such as the Journal of the National Cancer Institute, the Journal of Clinical Oncology, and The Breast Journal. He is also Associate Editor of Oncology and the Journal of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network. Dr. Carlson serves as chair of both the NCCN Breast Cancer Panel and Adjuvant Therapy in Breast Cancer Task Force. He is also a member of the NCCN Breast Cancer Risk Reduction Panel, Breast Cancer Disease Specific Executive Committee, CME Advisory Committee, and Guidelines Steering Committee.
